STARKVILLE - One of college tennis' major tournaments will feature two Mississippi State men's tennis players as Bulldogs Giovanni Oradini and Gregor Ramskogler are set to open in the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships Wednesday in Newport Beach, California.
The senior Oradini, ranked 24th nationally, qualified for the tournament by reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championships last month in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he defeated three ranked opponents. The Rovereto, Italy, native reached the consolation singles finals at ITA Fall Nationals two years ago in Indian Wells, California.
Oradini will open play in this year's draw against Bennett Crane of Indiana Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. PST.
The sophomore Ramskogler looks to continue his remarkable fall campaign as the Bulldog prepares for his first ever trip to the Oracle ITA Fall Championships. Ramskogler reached the event by winning seven consecutive matches over a six-day span to win the ITA Southern Regional Championships' singles crown two weeks ago in Auburn, Alabama. The Reichraming, Austria, native defeated Tim Dollman of host Auburn in an exciting three-set victory in the title match.
Ramskogler will open play Wednesday against the no. 12 seed of Matej Vocel of Oklahoma State at 10:30 a.m. PST.
Matches begin Wednesday and continue through Sunday at The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club and Newport Beach Tennis Club. The Fall Championships feature 128 singles players (64 men and 64 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's and 32 women's).
Mississippi State's five-time All-American Nuno Borges claimed the singles crown of the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in 2017.
