Volleyball Ready for Road Weekend

By Austin Coats, Graduate Assistant/Communications
STARKVILLE – After defeating Auburn last Friday (Oct. 25) at home, Mississippi State volleyball will take on the Tigers once again this Friday (Nov. 1) to start a two-match road weekend.
The Bulldogs will then travel to Baton Rouge, La., to face LSU on Sunday (Nov. 3).
"We are so excited to hit the road and face two quality opponents this weekend," MSU volleyball coach Julie Darty said. "We have put in lots of hard work and preparation this week, and I think we are ready to go in, give it our best effort and focus on staying true to the execution of our game plan. It's a quick turnover for Auburn, but I really believe we have improved quite a bit since the last time we saw LSU, so I am looking forward to the opportunity to face them again.
"I love long road trips like this because it gives the team time to work on their chemistry and just enjoy time together. We haven't got to gone on a trip like this since non-conference play so I think it will be great for the girls to spend time together and continue to grow as teammates."
Mississippi State (12-10, 1-9 SEC) will try for a repeat performance against Auburn (6-14, 0-9 SEC) following its first SEC win of the season a week prior. MSU won in four sets, led by freshman Callie Minshew's double-double on 11 kills and 15 digs. Friday's match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT start.
The Bulldogs then look to avenge their last matchup with LSU, which ended in a straight-set victory for the Tigers. Sunday's match will be streamed live via SEC Network+ with first serve at 1 p.m. CT.
Going into the weekend, Makenzie Jordan and Callie Minshew lead all SEC freshmen with 196 and 195 digs, respectively. Minshew has been a go-to player for State in her first season, being one of two Bulldogs to play all 86 of MSU's sets this season. Her 775 total attack attempts lead the team and sits No. 8 all-time among MSU freshmen.
