LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Mississippi State cross country team opens postseason action at the SEC Championships Friday in Lexington, Kentucky. State looks to improve on a 12th-place finish at the 2018 SEC Cross Country Championships.
The league meet, hosted by the University of Kentucky, will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park. The women's 6K race is set to begin at 9 a.m. CT with an awards ceremony to follow.
Coverage of the SEC Cross Country Championships begins at 8 a.m. on the SEC Network. Live results for the meet can be found at PTTiming.com.
"I'm super excited for this opportunity," distance coach Patrick McGregor said. "It's my first SEC Cross Country Championship, it's most of these girls' first SEC Cross Country Championship and it's Coach Woods' first as head coach. I think this first meet will set the tone for the direction this program is headed and the direction we're headed. We're very excited to be a part of it. We just have to go in and compete against the best."
All 14 member schools will field a women's team. Arkansas is the nation's top-ranked women's team while Ole Miss and Tennessee received votes in this week's USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll.
The Bulldogs are coming off a fifth-place finish at the UAB Blazer Classic on Oct. 18, ignited by a seventh-place finish by Sylvia Russell.
The SEC Championship serves as the final tune-up for MSU before NCAA Regionals on Nov. 15 in Tallahassee, Florida.
