State Wraps Action At ITA Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – Mississippi State women's tennis concluded play in the ITA Southern Regional Championships Sunday as two pairs of doubles teams and Emma Antonaki dropped tough matches in the quarterfinals.
The day started with doubles where Antonaki and Mikhailuk built an early lead but ultimately fell in an 8-5 decision to Georgie Axon and Madeline Meredith of Auburn. In a two-versus-six seed matchup, MSU's 14th-ranked Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine were upset by Selin Ovunc and Taylor Russo 8-4, also from Auburn.
Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry were back in action in a consolation doubles match against Auburn's Caraline Scheufler and Lindsay Song. Falceto and Lizariturry came out on top with an 8-3 victory.
In main draw singles competition, the 41st-ranked Antonaki represented the Bulldogs in a two-versus-five seed matchup in the quarterfinals Sunday afternoon. After losing a tight first set 7-5 to host LSU's No. 114 Taylor Bridges, the sophomore came back to clinch the second set 6-4 and force a third. Antonaki fought valiantly in a tight third set but ultimately fell to Bridges 7-5, 6-4, 7-5.
Adaloglou – ranked 115th nationally – and Mikhailuk competed in singles consolation matches that each went to a 10-point tiebreaker for the third set to decide each. Adaloglou came out victorious with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(6) triumph over Mackenzie Clark of Tulane while Mikhailuk was edged by Auburn's Carolyn Ansari 6-3, 6-7(3), 1-0(6).
The Bulldogs will return to action in the Roberta Alison Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Nov. 1-3.
