Volleyball Prepared for SEC Weekend at Home

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State volleyball will look to move back in the right direction as it hosts two SEC opponents this weekend (Oct. 18-20) at the Newell-Grissom Building as part of a three-match homestand.
The Bulldogs (11-7, 0-6 SEC) play host to Texas A&M (11-5, 3-3 SEC) on Friday at 6 p.m. CT before a Sunday matchup with Arkansas (6-11, 0-5 SEC) that is set for 1 p.m.
"We are so excited to be at home, and we are excited about welcoming Texas A&M and Arkansas to Starkville this weekend," MSU volleyball head coach Julie Darty said. "This is a huge home weekend for us, and we need our awesome fans to come out and support us both Friday and Sunday. I am hopeful that they will be able to see that we have been working hard and continuing to make strides in the right direction.
"We had a good week of practice this week and have been doing a lot to focus on who we are and being that team on a consistent basis. We have done a lot with our execution and understanding our game plan, so I am hoping to see more execution and efficiency from the team this weekend. We are focused and prepared, and if we just continue to put in the work and trust the process, then we will see the results."
Mississippi State opens the weekend as No. 3 in the SEC in digs (14.9 per set) and No. 5 in blocks (2.34 per set). Junior Kanani Price (230 digs) and senior Alleah Stamatis (206) are the only SEC duo with at least 200 digs apiece, and MSU is one of just two teams in the league with five student-athletes boasting triple-digit digs.
Additionally, Price's 4.14 digs per set in conference play ranks No. 8.
Sophomore Gabby Waden comes in this week at No. 9 in kills (3.34 per set) and No. 10 in points (3.70 per set) among league players, and her .320 hitting percentage is the second-best of SEC student-athletes with at least 200 kills.
Promotions
One luck winner at Friday's match will earn four tickets to Saturday's Mississippi State football game against LSU. Mississippi State athletic marketing will also be giving out 50 vouchers for Maroon Madness T-shirts.
Sundays at The Griss are Sundae Fundays! The first 100 fans at the Arkansas match will be treated to a complimentary ice cream bar, as well as chocolate-covered bacon.
