Darty hires Taylor McColskey as new assistant volleyball coach
Darty Announces McColskey Hire, Green Promotion

STARKVILLE – Looking forward to the 2019 season, and her second at the helm of the Mississippi State Volleyball program, head coach Julie Darty announced the hiring of a new assistant coach as well as a promotion of an existing staff member on Friday.
Joining the #DartyParty is assistant coach Taylor McColskey, who comes to the Bulldogs after a stint at Georgia State University. In addition, Travers Green has been promoted to associate head coach.
"Having Trav and Taylor on staff here is such a privilege," Darty said. "I get to work with two coaches who are so driven, and they push me to be better every single day. I really respect both of them, and they bring such different perspectives and ideas to the office and the gym every day. They both are people that I have known for years and worked with before, in some capacity, so it just feels easy to work with people that you know so well and have such respect for."
McColskey's experience on the court will have a major impact on the Bulldog program, especially at the net. While an assistant at GSU, he trained the middle blockers and setters, while also coordinating team travel. He tutored Meisheia Griffin, who finished No. 26 in the NCAA in 2018 with 1.35 blocks per set and ranked No. 2 in Sun Belt Conference with 1.55 blocks per set in conference play.
Before his stint with Georgia State, McColskey spent three seasons at Georgia Tech. His primary responsibilities during his time with the Yellow Jackets included scouting and video breakdown, training middle blockers and coordinating recruiting visits.
Prior to his time at Georgia Tech, McColskey spent one season at Jacksonville in 2013, prior to the arrival of current MSU head coach Julie Darty. In his lone season with the Dolphins, he helped them improve their record by 20 victories, finishing the 2013 campaign with a 30-4 record. Jacksonville also won the 2013 Atlantic Sun Tournament that season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history. He guided middle blocker Kylie Jacob to second team all-conference honors and all-tournament accolades.
McColskey also has experience in the Florida region as he coached a variety of volleyball clubs over a span of six years, including Ocean Breeze, Jupiter and the Instinct Volleyball Club. He served as an assistant coach for the boys' USA Select A1 team at the 2013 USA High Performance Championships.
"Taylor is someone that I have known for years, and he checked all the boxes in what we were looking for with this position," Darty said. "Taylor is going to bring so much to this program, and I am so excited about having him here on staff. Our student-athletes are going to love his energy and his passion. He truly loves the game of volleyball, and he loves connecting with people. Taylor is relentless in the gym, in the office, out on the recruiting trail, and that is exactly what we need for this program right now. Taylor will be our recruiting coordinator, and he will do a great job of maintaining and cultivating relationships with club coaches across the country and specifically in the Southeast. He will also handle a huge role in the gym with our training because he is a fabulous trainer with infectious energy."
McColskey played two years (2007-2009) as a defensive specialist and outside hitter at King College in Bristol, Tennessee. He graduated from Palm Beach State in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in supervision and management.
"I am so excited to join this amazing staff at Mississippi State," McColskey said. "I have been a fan of Julie's since her time at Jacksonville, I am thrilled that she has trusted me to join her in Starkville. My time in Atlanta was unbelievable. The people at Georgia State and Georgia Tech were incredible to work with. I am especially grateful for both of my head coaches, Sally Polhamus and Michelle Collier. That being said, I am thrilled about this new opportunity. Starkville is a special place with special people that are incredibly passionate about Mississippi State Athletics."
Starting his second year with Darty and the Bulldogs, Green has been promoted to the role of associate head coach. His devotion to the MSU volleyball program, knowledge of all things volleyball and respect on and off the court proved to be an easy decision for Darty to promote Green.
"Trav is someone that has his hands in all aspects of the program, and I really wouldn't be able to run this program without him," Darty said. "He works endlessly on scouting, recruiting, training, game plans and he is constantly trying to help us improve and be better and grow as a program. This program is going to take big strides and a huge reason why that will happen is because of what Trav is doing behind the scenes. I know that he could be a head coach somewhere else, but he chose to be here, in the maroon and white, pouring himself into this program every single day. I know our student-athletes trust and respect him, and I trust and respect him immensely. It only seemed fitting to promote him to associate head coach."
An Orlando native, Green graduated from Florida State in 2008 with a B.S. in Recreation and Leisure Services Administration. He is married to Sloane Green and the couple has two dogs, Archie and Fletcher.
"I want to thank Julie for the opportunity to work alongside her at Mississippi State," Green said. "Her belief in me and the program is apparent. It is a huge honor to receive this promotion. Under the leadership of John Cohen, the culture in the athletic department is incredible, and Starkville is a special place. The community has welcomed my wife, Sloane, and I. We are lucky to call this place home. I am excited to continue to grow our program where we know it can go."
