STARKVILLE – After an opening weekend that yielded early success, the Mississippi State track and field team is set for its second outing of the year this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.
MSU is making the first of two scheduled trips to the Music City for the Vanderbilt Invitational, held Jan. 18-19 at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
"This meet this weekend gives us a great opportunity to gain some more momentum," interim head coach Chris Woods said. "We had a strong opening weekend in several areas, and I'm interested to see how to take that success and continue to improve on it. Last weekend was also a great learning opportunity, so I'm eager to see how we improve from meet to meet, starting this weekend. We're excited about another great opportunity to get better, and we can't wait to get started on Friday."
The Bulldogs get started at 4 p.m. CT on Friday with three field events—the men's and women's high jump and the women's weight throw. The first gun on the track is set for 7 p.m. with the women's 200m before closing out the first day with the men's and women's 5000m races.
Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with Carly Terp in the women's unseeded 3000m. The Bulldogs will finish up the weekend with the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
On the women's side, a trio of ranked opponents await the Maroon and White in Alabama (No. 7), Kentucky (No. 10) and Georgia Tech (No. 22). Including the Crimson Tide and Wildcats, State is one of six Southeastern Conference teams in attendance in Nashville.
MSU's men face one ranked foe in No. 13 Alabama, and the Bulldogs are one of five SEC men's teams represented this weekend.
