STARKVILLEÂ - Coming off an elite performance for Mississippi State this past weekend, Deja Robinson was tabbed the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.Â
Â
Following an impressive weekend at the Appalachian State Invitational in Boone, North Carolina, Robinson tallied a total of 42 kills and finished the weekend with a .443 hitting percentage with 4.08 points and 3.23 kills per set. She was also named to the Appalachian State Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Â
On Friday against Davidson, she had a career-high 20 kills and finished with a .562 hitting percentage.
Â
"This is such a big honor, and I didn't expect it," Robinson said. "I'm trusting the process, and I am looking forward to the rest of the season with my team. We have something special going on in Starkville."
Â
Robinson is the first Bulldog to earn SEC Freshman Player of the Week since Kimmy Gardiner in 2013. Gardiner won the honor twice that season.
Â
"I am so proud of Deja and her performance last weekend," first-year coach Julie Darty said. "Deja is a very talented player for us, and we have high hopes for her and her future here as a Bulldog. Deja really stepped up and did a great job for us both offensively and defensively. Â She is a gifted athlete that also is understanding the game at this level, and I am proud of her. Deja continues to work hard every single day in practice and is really becoming a student of the game. We are very proud of Deja."
