COLUMBIA, S.C./CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A solid first weekend continued on Saturday for Mississippi State men's tennis senior Trevor Foshey.
On the second day of the 2018 Gamecock Fall Invitational in Columbia, South Carolina, the 2018 SEC Tournament MVP notched three wins (two singles, one doubles), highlighted by a victory against East Tennessee State's 107th-ranked David Gonzalez in three sets. Foshey's triumph marked the highest ranked win of his career.
Foshey also teamed up in doubles action with Bulldog rookie Gregor Ramskogler, the pair earning another victory by downing Southeastern Conference foes Scott Jones and Adam Walton of Tennessee 8-4 to set up a trip to the semifinals of Flight A. The tandem will take on SMU's Tomas Vaise and Jan-Simon Vrbsky on Sunday in the main draw semifinals.
In singles, the 2018 SEC Tournament MVP Foshey got back on the winning track, taking a three-set thriller against SMU's Tomas Vaise in the second round of consolation before he knocked off the 107th-ranked Gonzalez.
A little further north in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the 2018 UVA Masters, the Bulldogs concluded play in both singles and doubles in the double-elimination tournament.
State's Florian Broska and Strahinja Rakic dropped a hard-fought doubles decision to 2018 ITA All-Americans McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale of Florida—the second-seeded pair in the White Draw. In the Blue Draw third-place battle, MSU's seventh-ranked Niclas Braun and Giovanni Oradini's match ended in a retirement to Richard Ciamarra and Tristan McCormick of Notre Dame.
In singles consolation action, the 109th-ranked Braun dropped a tough 7-6(7), 6-4 decision to Columbia's Jason Lui, while Broska fell in a three-setter to Rrezart Cungu of defending national champion Wake Forest. Tulane's Luis Erlenbusch advanced past State's fifth-ranked Oradini by default, while the 43rd-ranked Rakic ended his singles action by dropping a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Axel Nefve of Notre Dame.

After returning from this weekend's tournaments, the Bulldogs will prepare for one of the top tournaments of the year—the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The week-long tournament, featuring the top talent in Division I college tennis, runs from Oct. 1-8.
