STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the second-straight week, a former Diamond Dawg won Southern League Player of the Week honors and was also named to the MLB Pipeline Team of the Week on Monday.
After batting .435 with a 1.393 OPS, and collecting two home runs, three doubles and six RBIs over seven games for the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (Tampa Bay Rays affiliate), Nate Lowe followed the example Brent Rooker set the week before with the Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota Twins).
Through 50 games in Double-A, Lowe boasts a .342 average while amassing 13 homers and 42 RBIs.
Jack Kruger could be the next to challenge for those awards, while riding a 10-game hitting streak for the Mobile BayBears (Los Angeles Angels) and batting .381 with nine RBIs in that span. In 37 games at that level, Kruger is hitting at a .318 clip to go along with 24 RBIs.
In MLB, Dakota Hudson settled in on the big stage immediately after making his big-league debut over a week ago. The former MSU ace has already won two games out of the St. Louis Cardinals bullpen, while throwing 6.0 scoreless innings over four appearances. On Saturday, Hudson threw 3.0 perfect innings on the road against Pittsburgh to earn his second win.
In that appearance, Hudson faced off against fellow former Diamond Dawg Adam Frazier. Hudson won the battle against Frazier, which not many MLB pitchers have been able to say recently. Now 11 games into his recall from Triple-A, Frazier is batting .406 with 13 hits, seven doubles, one home run and seven RBIs.
Frazier and Hudson are two of five former MSU players currently on active MLB rosters.
In Triple-A for the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers), Zac Houston extended his scoreless streak to nine games (11.0 innings pitched) this week. In his last 21 outings, Houston has allowed just two earned runs, as he boasts a 1.42 ERA and five saves this season with Toledo.
