May 08, 2018 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Coming off of a Southeastern Conference road series win, Mississippi State will continue its seven-game road trip with a neutral-site matchup with Troy on Wednesday night at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
The Diamond Dawgs (26-22) and Trojans (32-16) will face off with a 6 p.m. CT first pitch in Hoover, Ala. State will be the designated home team in what will be MSU's final non-conference contest of the regular season. Tickets for Wednesday's game are available for as low as $5.
With no midweek, State went 2-1 last week with a series win at Alabama that included a pair of comeback victories. The Bulldogs erased a six-run deficit on Friday and a three-run deficit on Sunday. A balanced offensive attack aided MSU as nine different Diamond Dawgs recorded an RBI and five notched an extra-base hit.
MSU is 4-0 all-time against Troy with the two sides having last met at Dudy Noble Field during the 2017 season. Wednesday's game will mark the first neutral-site meeting between the two sides. The Bulldogs won the only meeting between the two sides in Alabama at Troy in 2016.

STATE SPEAKS
Head Coach – Gary Henderson
On playing Troy before Kentucky…
"In our sport, you have to play the next game first. You can't worry about what you have beyond that. We need to go to Hoover and play very well. We need to do that for our record and our conference."
On returning to Lexington to face Kentucky…
"We played against them last year, so we had the initial meeting. It'll be good, but it's about winning the baseball game. You'll see some friends, I have good relationships up there, but I've already gone through that part of life. I'm proud of what those kids have done. I've been coaching long enough to know how important it is to maintain those relationships. They're good, valuable and precious. You have to go win baseball games."
On conversation with pitchers…
"I think the determining factor, in how you talk to the pitchers, comes back to being positive. If you start with positivity, then you can be aggressive. You have to have a real conversation about keeping the ball down. You play at some ballparks, and in some weather conditions, where up-and-away just won't leave the yard. That's the way it is, and that's not the way it is in Lexington. You have to keep it down and utilize both sides of the plate. You have to go back to the absolute basics. You have to stay down, get ahead, change speeds and attack. It's a lot easier said than done, sometimes. That's where you go, and that part doesn't change. Those will be the things that we talk about."
Jr. – Jake Mangum – OF
On the team's offensive development…
"A lot of guys are hitting the ball very well. (Elijah) MacNamee had a big weekend, so it's not just the freshmen. (Rowdey) Jordan had a great weekend, so did (Tanner) Allen. The guys are starting to click with hitting and having a lot of big at bats. Seven runs in the sixth inning on Friday night was huge. You could keep going. We had a lot of big at bats this weekend. There's a list of good at bats, not just a few."
On team mindset…
"We want to win every game. We will take each game one-by-one. We have tomorrow night in Hoover, then we want to go win a series against Kentucky."
