Price-Weimer and Devroe Score at NCAA Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Two more athletes scored points for Mississippi State at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
"I'm proud of how we came out and fought on the big stage this weekend," head coach Steve Dudley said. "Our goal coming in was to finish inside the Top 20 in the team scoring, and on the women's side, we did that. Now we'll turn our focus to the outdoor season, which is what we're built a little better for anyway."
Senior Rhianwedd Price-Weimer finished fourth in the mile with a season-best time of 4:33.00. That's just off her personal-best time of 4:32.74.
For the second day in a row, Dejon Devroe set a new personal best in the 800m, crossing the line in 1:47.69. Devroe is now one of three Bulldogs to ever run under 1:48.00 in the indoor 800m.
On Friday, he became just the second No. 16 seed in the men's 800m to advance to the final at the indoor championships since the format was limited to the top 16 athletes in each event across the country in 2013. With his sixth-place finish, he becomes the highest-finishing 16th seed in the event.
"Coming it at 16th, I felt like I had nothing to lose," Devroe said. "Originally, I was 19th and wasn't supposed to be here. I just thought to myself, whatever the outcome was, that I'm grateful God put me in the position to succeed and push myself."
Tiffany Flynn advanced to the finals in the women's triple jump, where she placed ninth with a leap of 13.23m (43-5). The mark is short of her personal-best, but still better than that of the second-best performer in MSU indoor history.
MSU finished with three first-team All-Americans: Devroe, Price-Weimer and Logan Boss, who won the bronze medal in the high jump on Friday. On the women's side, State totaled 11 points, the most the Bulldogs have scored since 2015, and finished tied for 20th. Devroe's finish gave the Bulldogs three points in the men's competition.
Mississippi State will now head outdoors with three athletes competing in the Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama on March 16. The rest of the squad opens the outdoor season at the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays in Starkville on March 23-24.
