
Women's Basketball Looks to Rebound at Washington Thursday

SEATTLE, Wash. – After dropping their first game of the season at No. 7 Oregon, Mississippi State's women's basketball team remains on the road as they look to rebound against Washington on Thursday night.
 
Tipoff from Alaska Airlines Arena is set for 9 p.m. CT with a live stream available on Pac-12.com. Fans can listen to the action on the MSU Radio Network and online via HailState.com/Plus and the TuneIn app.
 
The 10-1 Bulldogs, who rose No. 4 in this week's AP and USA Today Coaches polls, enter the week ranked in the Top 15 in NCAA Division I in three statistical categories, and top the SEC in twelve categories including assists, rebounds per game and field goal percentage.
 
State also tops the country in blocked shots with 7.3 per game. Individually, Teaira McCowan entered the week leading the conference with 2.9 bpg, while freshman Jessika Carter followed in fourth with 1.9 bpg. McCowan tops MSU with an 17.4 scoring average, and graduate transfer Anriel Howard is not far behind averaging 16.1 after a career-high 30 points against the Ducks.
 
Individually, Jazzmun Holmes leads the nation in assist/turnover ratio (6.89). Over the last four games, she has recorded 28 assists and just three turnovers while averaging 12.5 ppg with a 46.9% FG% (15-of-32). She has made 19-of-20 from the free throw line.
 
Thursday will conclude a 5,207-mile round-trip journey to play the Ducks and Huskies. MSU will then dismiss student-athletes for the holidays before returning to Starkville on Dec. 30 to host Louisiana.

- MSU won its 700th game in program history last week, defeating Southern Miss, 86-42.
- The Bulldogs saw their 46-game winning streak in regular-season non-conference play snapped on Tuesday night by No. 7 Oregon. State last lost such a game at Texas on Dec. 2, 2015.

REDEFINED DEFENSE
- Jazzmun Holmes is a big reason MSU is one of the nation's best in assists and assist/turnover ratio. Over her last four games, she is averaging 7.0 apg compared with just 0.8 turnovers.
- She is 2nd in the SEC dishing 5.6 apg, but she has taken care of the basketball, leading the nation with a 6.9 assist/turnover ratio.
- The Gulfport, Miss., native notched career assist No. 300 against Furman, and her 336-career dimes are 6th by an active SEC player and tied for 9th place in the MSU record books.
