ATHENS, Ga.- After a tough battle on the court, Mississippi State (5-26 (1-17 SEC) fell to Georgia (15-14, 6-12 SEC) in four in the final match of the 2018 season.
Mississippi State fell to Georgia 25-19, 22-25, 31-33, 13-25.
"What a year for the Dawgs," head coach Julie Darty said. "I felt like we finished the year playing some super gritty volleyball. That third set tonight, to me, was the definition of maturity and growing up. I think we went through our fair share of growing pains early on and we really just gutted it out tonight. This is a great foundation in Year One for us to build upon. I want to thank Khris [Carr], Taylor [Haskins] and Morgan [Kath] for their contributions to the program. I can't thank them enough for helping us build the foundation, change the culture and trust this process. As a whole, I think this was such a great match for some of our young kids. I think it's a lot for us to build off of and I'm just so excited for the future of Bulldog Volleyball."
A service error by Georgia put Mississippi State on the board first to start the match. The rest of the set was tight for the remainder of the match as there were 11 ties and six score changes. Before the media timeout, Mississippi State went on a three-point streak off of kills from Shaw and Cooks to push ahead to 15-13.
