STARKVILLE, Miss. – A Mississippi State women's tennis quartet will represent the Maroon & White at the SMU Invite in Dallas, Texas, this weekend (Oct. 5-7), marking the third stop on the Bulldogs' fall slate. The tournament, hosted by the SMU Mustangs, will feature a diverse field, including Abilene Christian, Austin Peay State, Central Arkansas, Central Oklahoma, Georgia State, Houston, Middle Tennessee State, Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UT-Arlington.
Senior Janina Braun, junior Sara Lizariturry, and newcomers Tamara Racine and Meredith Roberts will take the court in the Lone Star state. Action will commence with doubles starting at 11 a.m. CT on Friday.
Braun and Lizariturry will open tandem play in the #1 Doubles draw against Abilene Christian's Sarah Eleanor Adams and Nini Memishishi. Roberts and Racine will also pair in #1 Doubles for a first-round contest against Houston's Phonexay Chitdara and Sophie Gerits. This weekend's tournament will mark the first time either Bulldog doubles partnership has seen competition together.
All four Bulldogs will also compete in singles action beginning Friday at 1 p.m. CT.
The rookie Roberts will battle Ana Perez-Lopez in the #1 Singles draw. Roberts is fresh off an MSU career-opening 2-1 ledger at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic in late September.
State's Braun will also see action in #1 Singles. She is set to meet Austin Peay's Lidia Yanes Garcia.
The unbeaten Barcelona, Spain, native Lizariturry takes the court following a singles flight title at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic to open her third season in Starkville. She will take on Constandena Nicolaou of Houston in the #2 Singles draw.
Racine rounds out State's singles entries in #2 Singles. She meets Houston's Phonexay Chidara, following a 1-1 singles mark to open her fall campaign and MSU career at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.
Competition will run through three days of hard-fought action at the Mustangs' SMU Tennis Complex at Turpin Stadium & Brookshire Family Pavilion in Dallas.
