OXFORD, Miss. – Mississippi State women's tennis concluded its ITA Southern Regional run on Sunday, as Emma Antonaki and Anastasia Rentouli fell in their respective quarterfinal contests. MSU was one of only two schools in the field to place two or more players in the singles quarters this weekend.
State's ninth-seeded true freshman Antonaki won three straight over the weekend, including a marathon Round of 16 three-setter to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal action. There, the nation's 10th-ranked newcomer was bested by LSU's top-seeded and 38th-ranked Eden Richardson 6-1, 6-4.
The MSU senior Rentouli also won a trio of matches to earn a spot in the quarters, following a resilient three-set comeback in Saturday's Round of 16. Rentouli took Sunday's first set with ease as the weather turned sour, and action was continued indoors. The 14th-seeded and 125th-ranked Rentouli ultimately dropped a three-set affair to sixth-seeded and 92nd-ranked Tea Jandric of host Ole Miss 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 to seal the weekend for the Bulldogs.
