STARKVILLE – One meet remains for the Mississippi State cross country team before the Southeastern Conference Championships in Auburn, Alabama, as the Bulldogs are set to toe the line at Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational on Saturday.
The meet, in its inaugural year, will be held at the Aggies' Watts Cross Country Course in College Station, Texas. State's men will open up the day with the 8K race at 9 a.m. CT followed by the women's 6K at 9:45 a.m. Admission to the meet is free.
"This weekend will be a great test for us before SECs in a couple of weeks," head coach Houston Franks said. "There are several teams from our league here, as well as some solid non-conference teams. It's a good opportunity for us to see where we're at before we go to Auburn, and we can't wait to get going on Saturday."
State is one of 24 teams in the women's race that includes four other SEC foes—Florida, LSU, host Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. Oklahoma State ranked 29th nationally, and national vote-getters SMU and Texas are also set to run against the Bulldogs. Saturday will mark the first 6K of the season for State, running the 5K distance in its last three outings.
In the men's race, MSU will compete against 25 other teams, including a pair of nationally-ranked foes in No. 24 Oklahoma State and 28th-ranked Middle Tennessee State. Tennessee and Texas, who received votes, also highlight the field.
Live results for the meet can be found here.
