No. 14 Bulldogs Wrap Up Season-Opening Home Stand Sunday Against Miami

STARKVILLE, Miss. – On Sunday, the 14th-ranked Mississippi State men's tennis team (2-0) will round out its season-opening three-match home stand, welcoming ACC foe Miami (1-1) to the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre at Noon.
Miami's visit to Pitts will mark State's second straight match against an opponent from the Sunshine State after South Florida paid the Bulldogs a visit on Friday.
"Miami will be another great test for us," fourth-year head coach Matt Roberts said. "They're a team that has a lot of great players and we really respect their program. Like South Florida, they compete really hard and we're looking forward to playing another exciting match in front of a great crowd at Pitts."
Last Time Out For MSU…
The last time the Bulldogs took the court (Friday), they rallied to take a 5-2 decision against South Florida after the Bulls took an early lead by winning the doubles point. In doubles, State's Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic gave the Maroon and White an early advantage by earning a 6-2 win. MSU's 49th-ranked tandem of Niclas Braun and Trevor Foshey battled, but were upset in a hard-fought 6-3 decision on court 1. Court 3 featured a thriller that saw MSU's No. 41 duo of Florian Broska and Giovanni Oradini came back from down 5-3 to force a tiebreak, which was won by USF to put the Bulls up with an early 1-0 lead.
In singles action, State bounced back from doubles to win five of the six singles bouts, led by the third-ranked Borges at the top spot. No. 54 Rakic, No. 118 Braun, Broska and Foshey all registered singles victories for the Bulldogs as well, with Foshey clinching the victory for MSU at the No. 6 position.
About the Hurricanes…
Miami comes to Pitts having split a pair of matches in New Orleans on Friday, dropping a 6-1 decision to No. 22 Tulane before blanking New Orleans 4-0. Last season, the Hurricanes finished 9-13 overall and reached the second round of the ACC Tournament.
The Hurricanes bring to Starkville a pair of nationally-ranked singles players, led by freshman Bojan Jankulovski at No. 71 followed by Christian Langmo at 78th nationally. Additionally, Piotr Lomacki finished the 2016-17 season ranked No. 63.

Following MSU's match against Miami Sunday, the Bulldogs will hit the road for the first time in 2018 to Stillwater, Okla., for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, hosted by Oklahoma State. The Bulldogs are set to face Wisconsin in the first round at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, before facing the winner of No. 15 Oklahoma State/Kentucky the following day. The team that wins two matches in the event will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship to be held Feb. 16-19 in Seattle, Wash.
