MSU Finishes to 4-3 During Bulldog Invitational
September 02, 2017 | Volleyball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State closed out the Bulldog Invitation on Saturday with a 3-0 setback to Stephen F. Austin (25-21, 25-21, 25-12).
Â
The Bulldogs now stand at 4-3 on the year after picking up wins this week against Grambling State (25-13, 25-16, 25-12) and South Florida (25-23, 25-20, 25-22).
Â
"We're young, and we've got to get better," third-year coach David McFatrich said. "We made a lot of mistakes today. SFA is a well-coached team. I remember them from my Southland Conference days, and they are always tough. They got the better of us today. We're going to go back to the drawing board and see if we can't keep getting better."
Â
Set one featured an exciting back and forth match between the two, as there was a consistent two-point difference the majority of the game. Attack errors and kills were the difference, as Stephen F. Austin wins, 25-21.
Â
In set two, the Dawgs and the Ladyjacks battled similarly to the first. MSU's 12 total digs helped contribute to the fight, but SFA capitalized on errors and won, 25-21.
Â
The final set played similarly to the previous two, as Stephen F. Austin won, 25-12
Â
On Monday, Mississippi State hosts Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs picked up a game after La. Tech's tournament was cancelled.
