McFatrich Pleased With Season's First Practice

STARKVILLE, Miss. – New and old faces took the court Monday morning as Mississippi State officially opened its 2017 volleyball campaign with practice No. 1.
Coming together after summer workouts and eager to get started, third-year coach David McFatrich put his teams through drills, conditioning and a scrimmage.
"I thought it went really well. I loved the effort," he said. "Communication was good. We got a lot of touches in, and they're coachable. I mean, they look at me in the eye when I'm talking to them. No coach can ask for anything more than that. Being coachable and combining that with effort made me excited about the way we started."
The Dawgs ran through multiple drills with a lot of grit and positivity being shown on the court. A scrimmage finished off the first day of practice.
"For the first practice, I thought everyone was really excited. We had a lot of energy," outside hitter Khristian Carr said. "Overall, it's one of the best first practices I've ever attended. Again, I would say energy. Everybody was coachable; every one was willing to try new things. No complaining. No confusion. And we worked together as a team."
MSU will continue its preseason for the next eight days, with the three-a-day practice schedule wrapping up on August 15.
Looking Ahead
The Bulldogs are 18 days away from starting the 2017 season. MSU will travel to Dallas to participate in the SMU Tournament. MSU plays SMU at 12:30 p.m. and Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 4:30 p.m. to open up the first day of play on Friday, Aug. 25. The weekend of opening play concludes as State takes on Rice at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Mississippi State's home opener is the Bulldog Invitational set for Aug. 31 against Grambling at 6 p.m.
