Bulldogs Cap Home Weekend Against Vols Saturday
March 31, 2017 | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking to cap the home weekend on a good note, the 17th-ranked Mississippi State men's tennis team (14-5, 5-2 SEC) will host the Tennessee Volunteers (9-10, 1-6 SEC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
The contest will be the third match of MSU's five-match homestand.
"We're excited and eager to get back out on the court against Tennessee tomorrow," head coach Matt Roberts said. "We're expecting a great crowd at A.J. Pitts, so our guys will feed off their energy. Every match is another opportunity to get better, so we need to take advantage of tomorrow."
Last time out, MSU dropped a tough contest to No. 14 Georgia as the Bulldogs from Athens escaped Starkville with a win. Saturday's match will feature a Bulldog club looking to bounce back after tough back-to-back home SEC losses.
Who To Watch For MSU
No. 8 Nuno Borges and Niclas Braun look to continue their stellar play in singles action as each Bulldog owns a winning streak in singles play. Borges has won his last two matches while Braun has taken his last 10 decisions.
Previewing The Volunteers
Tennessee has lost its last three matches entering Saturday's contest as the Vols are 9-10 on the season. UT has only won one conference match, with the lone victory coming against Ole Miss back in early March.
Who To Watch For Tennessee
Timo Stodder is the player to watch for the Vols as he ranks 34th nationally in singles play. The sophomore from Berlin is 21-10 overall, with a 3-2 record in conference play. The Vols have two ranked doubles team with Luis Valero and Jack Schipanski at No. 42, along with Scott Jones and TImo Stodder at No. 80 .
