MSU Falls To Texas A&M On Wednesday At Home
November 22, 2017 | Volleyball
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Senior Day didn't go as planned for Mississippi State as Texas A&M spoiled the festivities with a four-set win at Newell-Grissom on Senior Day.
The Bulldogs (9-23, 0-17 SEC), with one game left on the year, fell to the Aggies (9-15, 6-11 SEC) 25-21, 13-25, 14-25, 11-25.
"I thought we came out and did a good job ball controlling in the first game and beat them," third-year coach David McFatrich said. "From then on out they out-passed and out-served us, plus they had better dig control. They got good looks in transition. I think that was the difference in the game."
Mississippi State had drive, energy and focus to open the game. The Bulldogs stayed three points ahead the majority of the opening set and never trailed after falling behind 1-0.
Shining on the stat sheets were the seniors as Jelena Vujcin had 6 kills and 7.0 points and Payton Harris had 6 digs. Both Vujcin and Harris, along with Carina Lehto and Morgan Kath, had one service ace apiece. Ultimately, MSU capitalized off of Texas A&M's errors to win set one, 25-21, on a kill by Vujcin.
In the second and third sets, MSU struggled to stop Texas A&M's attack game, as the Aggies won 25-12 and 25-14, respectively.
In the fourth set, MSU couldn't swing the momentum to its favor. However, Vujcin did record 4 kills and 4.0 points. Brooklyn Lochner had 2 kills and 2.0 points. Unfortunately, MSU struggled to stop the Aggie's attack game and lost, 25-11.
On Friday, Mississippi State plays its last match of the year against South Carolina in Columbia. First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT on the SEC Network +.
