PENSACOLA, Fla. – An incredible run for Mississippi State's Nuno Borges in the USTA Pensacola Futures Championship came to a close on Saturday at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.
Borges, the 2017 ITA National Fall Championships singles champion, dropped a hard-fought 7-6(5), 7-5 decision to seventh-seeded and former Southern Cal standout Emilio Gomez (ATP 626).
The MSU junior All-American concluded up an impressive fall that saw him dominate the field at the ITA Championships by downing six consecutive ranked opponents—all in straight-set fashion. He then went 3-1 this week in Pensacola.
With Borges wrapping up play in Pensacola, State will turn its attention to a challenging spring dual match schedule, which opens on Jan. 14 at home against UAB.
