MSU Tennis Closes Qualifying At ITA All-American; Oradini Earns Main Draw Bid

TULSA, Okla. – Giovanni Oradini's success against ranked foes continued on Tuesday in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships singles qualifying draw, as the Mississippi State sophomore won two hard-fought, three-set matches to punch his ticket into the singles main draw.
Oradini moved to 6-0 this fall against ranked opponents by downing East Tennessee State's No. 113 Robert Herrera 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 followed by an even tougher 7-6(4), 6-7(7), 6-4 victory against Michigan's Myles Schalet, ranked 91st nationally, in the final round of qualifying competition.
Bulldog junior Niclas Braun also earned another victory on Tuesday, taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Miami's Bojan Jankulovski before dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision to No. 75 Logan Staggs of UCLA in the third round.
State's Trevor Foshey saw his singles qualifying run end on Tuesday, as he dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to 83rd-ranked Felix Corwin of Minnesota. No. 67 Bulldog Strahinja Rakic's consolation match against David Micevski of Utah was canceled due to rain.
In qualifying doubles action, Nuno Borges and Rakic dropped a back-and-forth three-setter to Florida's Andy Andrade and Chase Perez-Blanco, 7-6, 6-7, 1-0(8).
The All-American Borges, ranked No. 2 nationally, is already entered in the 64-player singles main draw and will be joined there by Braun and Oradini when play gets underway Thursday in Tulsa. Braun and Foshey, No. 7-ranked as a doubles tandem, are also already entered in that 32-team field as well.
