HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Tying its highest finish of the last two seasons, the Mississippi State men's golf team shot a final round 280 to finish in third place at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.

"We had a solid round and played with a lot of focus and determination," MSU coach Clay Homan said.

The Bulldog tandem of Taylor Grant and Taylor Bibbs tied for 12th after shooting rounds of 1-under par 70 and 73 respectively.

Senior Ben Follett-Smith matched Grant's 70 with a 70 of his own to end the three round tournament in a tie for 22nd.

Joining Follett-Smith in a tie for 22nd, freshman Garrett Johnson tallied a third round 71.

Ross Bell, rounding out the MSU scorecard, fired a 69 in the final round to jump back into the top 30 to tie for 28th.

Jacob Ross tied for 74th after carding a third round 75 while competing as an Individual.

"I thought we played consistently for three rounds and I saw many positives that we can build on," Homan said.

Louisiana-Monroe, lead by individual winner Andoni Etchenique, won by four strokes over host Southern Miss.

MSU has a week off before heading north to play in the Cincinnati Intercollegiate on Sept. 26th.
