Sprinters Have Great Day For No. 21 Bulldogs

Sophomore Marquis Davis automatically qualified for the NCAA Indoors in the 200 meters and broke the MSU indoor record held by teammate Pierre Browne during his preliminary run with a 20.73. Davis was the second-fastest qualifier behind Tennessee's Justin Gatlin, who ran a 20.57.
Men's sprinters Dion Crabbe and Pierre Browne advanced to Sunday's finals in the 60- and 200-meter dashes, with Crabbe provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships in both.
Crabbe ran a 6.71, which tied Marquis Davis for third all-time for MSU in the 60m. The Virgin Islands native took ninth in the qualifying for the 200m with a 21.10, the fourth-best mark in MSU history. Crabbe also placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 23-11.
The Olympian Browne placed second in his heat in the 60m, with a time of 6.70, his second-best time of the season. He qualified sixth in the 200m, finishing the race in 21.07.
On the women's side, freshman Tiffany McWilliams qualified for the finals in the mile, taking second in her heat with a mark of 4:56.23.
Also, senior Christine Zawaski took seventh place in the women's 3000 meters with a mark of 9:54.54. Freshman Meggan Hodge placed twelfth.
Action begins Sunday for the final day of the 2002 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships in the Randal Tyson Track Center at 11 a.m. with the men's high jump and women's shot put.
