Dakota Hudson Wins Third SEC Pitcher of the Week Honor
May 23, 2016 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the third time this season, Mississippi State junior righty Dakota Hudson has been tabbed SEC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Hudson snags the award after tossing his second-consecutive complete game shutout, striking out 10 Arkansas sluggers en route to his ninth win of the season. The Dunlap, Tennessee native now has 101 strikeouts on the season, becoming the first Bulldog to pass the century mark since All-American Jacob Lindgren had 100 in 2014.
With a 9-3 record, Hudson helped propel the Bulldogs to their first outright SEC regular season Championship since 1989 with wins against No. 10 Oregon, No. 11 Ole Miss and at No. 7 LSU. He also picked up a no decision after not allowing an earned run in nine innings on the road at No 2 Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs won 2-1 in 13 innings.
In total, Hudson has made 14 starts for the Bulldogs in 2016 and has lasted at least five innings in every outing. He recorded a quality start in eight of those contests, and the Maroon and White own a 7-1 record over that span.
With the shutout of Arkansas, Hudson lowered his season ERA to a blistering 2.29 (4th in SEC). His nine wins and 101 strikeouts are also both good for fourth in the conference.
He joins Ross Mitchell (2014) and Alan Johnson (2003) as the only other Bulldogs to win the prestigious award three times in one season.
