
Three Bulldogs Currently In Top 5 Of Decathlon

MOBILE, Ala. – With half the events completed in the decathlon, three Bulldogs sit in Top 5 going into day two of the South Alabama Invitational.
After completing day one, Willie Reed sits in third place of the decathlon with 3,602 points, while teammates Jaquarius Wilson and Zachary Taylor land in fourth and fifth with 3,487 points and 3,419 points.
Competing in his first decathlon, Reed ran a time of 11.27 in the 100m dash collecting 801 points. In the long jump, Reed had the second best leap of 23-01.75 to record 826 points and threw 32-02.25 to earn 474 points in the shot put. Ending day one, Reed cleared 6-03.25 in the high jump before clocking a time of 50.80 in the 400m dash. He captured third place at the end of day one totaling 3,602 points.
Wilson started his first heptathlon of the season clocking a time of 11.64 in the 100m dash before jumping 21-09 in the long jump. He earned a total of 1,450 points through the first two events. Wilson captured 595 points in the shot put after throwing 38-09.50. He also cleared a personal-best 6-03.25 in the high jump scoring 723 points. In the final event of the day, Wilson placed sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 52.14, brining his total to 3,487 after day one.
Starting the day with a first place finish in the decathlon 100m dash, Taylor recorded a time of 11.06 earning 847 points. He went on to leap 20-05.25 in the long jump and throw 34-05.50 in the shot put receiving 637 and 516 points. Taylor cleared 5-08 for 569 points in the high jump. The junior concluded day one of the event recording a time of 49.24 for 850 points bringing his total to 3,419 points.
Day two of the decathlon will begin at 10 a.m. CT with the 110m hurdles.
Sitting in seventh-place going into day two, Erica Bougard tallied a total of 2,561 points in the heptathlon. After clocking a time of 13.79 in the 100m hurdles, Bougard earned 1,008 points in the first event. She went on to clear 5-09.75 to capture 941 points in the high jump. Collecting 612 points in the shot put, Bougard had the best throw in the event tossing 36-11.25. Bougard did not finish the 200m dash.
Recording a time of 14.92 in the 100m hurdles, Zaria Tillman kicked off her first heptathlon scoring 852 points. Unable to clear in the high jump, Tillman went on to throw 33-01.25 in the shot put, the sixth-best throw in the event. She earned 535 points. Tillman ran a time of 27.14 in the heptathlon 200m dash recording 700 points. She has a total of 2,087 points landing her in 13th after four events.
The heptathlon will resume tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. CT with the long jump.
Also, competing tomorrow will be Curtis Thompson in the javelin, Haley Reynolds in the shot put and Carl Pittman and Sydney Rodkey in the pole vault.
