
Track & Field Brings Home Five Wins At Battle Of The Bayou

BATON ROUGE, La. – Bringing home a total of five wins on Saturday, the Mississippi State track and field teams conclude the Battle of the Bayou.
“We performed well on Saturday,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “Numerous athletes broke personal-bests and captured wins. We're halfway through the season now and there is still a lot of work to be done for us to finish strong. We've had a solid start, but we can't give up now. The athletes have to continue to improve."
Clearing a personal-best 7-01 in the high jump, senior Seth Peace brought home first place in the event on Saturday.
Bringing home a first-place finish, Erica Bougard won the high jump after clearing 6-01.25. Her clearance was just short of her personal-best 6-02. Finishing eighth and ninth in the event was Logan Boss and Deja Givens. Boss cleared 5-07, while Givens, cleared 5-05.
Bougard also went on to throw a personal-best 132-05 in the javelin to finish sixth.
Another first-place finish was brought home by Curtis Thompson after throwing 243-04 in the javelin.
Throwing 185-03 in the hammer throw, Brianna Smith tossed her way to the second-best throw in MSU history. This was Smith's second appearance in the hammer throw for the Bulldogs. She finsihed sixth overall.
Running the third-best time in school history, Marta Freitas posted a time of 2:04.16 to finish first in the 800m run. Competing alongside Freitas was Ffion Price who finished fourth with the fourth-best time in program history clocking 2:06.89.
Alfred Larry ran 46.23 to bring home first place in the 400m dash. Behind Larry in fifth place was Dustin James II with a time of 47.49. In eighth was Rodrigo Rocha clocking a time of 48.04, while Vince Castillo finished ninth with a time of 48.07.
To finish second, Cornelia Griesche ran a personal-best 4:25.73 in the 1500m run, while teammate Antonia Hehr placed seventh with a time of 4:29.89. On the men's side, Andrew Monaghan placed fifth with a time of 3:52.42
Ro'Derick Spears recorded a time of 14.11 to finish second in the 110m hurdles, while Willie Reed earned sixth with a time of 14.74. Jaquarius Wilson finished seventh running a time of 15.75.
Reed also record a personal-best 24-07.75 in the long jump to capture fifth place.
Bougard clocked a time of 13.09 in her first 100m hurdles of the season placing third overall. Tiffany Flynn finished seventh in the event after running a personal-best time of 13.61.
In the triple jump, Flynn brought home a second-place finish after a leap of 40-03.50.
To finish eight in the pole vault, Carl Pittman cleared a personal-best 15-02.25.
The foursome of Rocha, Philip Smith, Lawrence Crawford and Charles Taylor posted a time of 40.12 to finish third in the men's 4x100m relay.
Rasheed Tatham, Juston Waters, Dustin James II and Vince Castillo made up the men's 4x400m relay that finished third with a time of 3:09.28.
Tying her personal-best 23.92 Shayla Luckett finished 14th in the 200m dash. Immediately behind Luckett was Kimari Martin in 15th with a personal-best 23.94.
MSU will return to action Thursday, April 14 for the South Alabama Invite in Mobile, Ala.
