Grant Paces MSU On Day One At Southwestern Jones Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CAILF – Led by sophomore Taylor Grant, the Mississippi State men's golf team shot a 559 to tie for tenth heading into Tuesday's final round at the Southwestern Jones Invitational.
Grant nabbed a tie for 24th position after shooting a 36-hole total of 3-over par 147.
“It was a tough day for us. We hit the ball much too well to post the scores we did,” MSU coach Clay Homan. “We played the par 5s poorly and most of the shots we wasted were shots on and around the greens.”
Joining Grant in the top 30, Jacob Ross carded a 148 to tie for 29th.
Senior Ben Wood shot a two round total of 151 tying him for 40th place, while freshman Ross Bell sits in a tie for 60th after turning in a scorecard of 155 on the day.
Rounding out the Bulldogs' scorecard, Ben Follett-Smith shot 160 to have sole possession of 77th place.
“We were number one in the field in par 3 scoring so that is evidence that our ball striking is decent,” Homan said. “We need to come out tomorrow and score when the chances are available.”
Southern California leads the 15-team field. USC's Jonah Texeira and Sean Crocker lead on the individual side.
The Maroon and White tee off the third and final round on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. CST
