MSU Claims 13th Place Finish At Southwestern Jones Invitational

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CAILF – Under almost picture perfect skies, the Mississippi State men's golf team shot a final round 299 to finish 13th at the Southwestern Jones Invitational.
“Overall it's disappointing to finish poorly but hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and improve,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “We really need a couple of guys to step up and shoot more rounds under par. It doesn't take long for those 74s to add up.”
Sophomore Taylor Grant turned in a final round scorecard of three over-par 75 to finish in a tie for 32nd.
Coming in a tie for 35th, Jacob Ross shot a final round 75, while senior Ben Wood finished in a tie for 42 after shooting a third round 75.
Ross Bell, a Madison, Miss. native, shot a third round of 74 to finish tied for 53rd.
Rounding out the Bulldog scorecard, Ben Follett-Smith shot an 80 to end in sole possession of 77th place.
“This group will continue to get better with each tournament but in the short term, we must tighten up our short game and give ourselves more opportunities for birdies and easy pars,” Homan said.
No. 6 Southern California won the team competition led by the individual first and second place finishers Jonah Texeria and Andrew Levitt.
The Maroon and White return to the course Sunday, March 6th to play in the Auburn-hosted Tiger Invitational.
