Larry, McBride Bring Home Wins For Track & Field

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Bringing home two first-place finishes at the Armory Track Invite, seniors Brandon McBride and Alfred Larry led the way for the Mississippi State men's track and field team Friday.
McBride placed first in the 1000m run after he clocked a time of 2:23.60 to bring home 10 points for the team, while Larry earned his victory in the 500m dash invite after posting a time of 1:03.04 also scoring 10 points.
“Everyone worked really hard tonight,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “Brandon and Alfred brought home quality wins for the team; we also had numerous athletes provide points to the team scores. Going into tomorrow we need to keep coming out strong and showing just how talented these teams are.”
Finishing behind Larry in third and scoring six points in the 500m dash was freshman Rasheed Tatham running a time of 1:03.51, while teammate Dustin James II ran 1:04.73 to place eighth scoring one point.
Winning his heat with a time of 48.03, sophomore Juston Waters earned second overall in the 400m dash scoring 8 points for the Bulldogs. Charles Taylor finished 10th in the event with an indoor personal-best time of 48.53.
Capturing six points for the women's team, Ffion Price ran a time of 2:48.12 to place third in the 1000m run.
Kimari Martin finished sixth overall in the 500m run with a time of 1:14.72
Appearing in her first 5000m run for the Maroon and White, Shannon Fair posted a time of 17:18.67 finishing eighth earning one point for the women's team.
Competing for the first time this season, Stephan James showcased his talents after clocking a time of 6.78 to place fifth in 60m dash semifinals to qualify for Saturday's finals. Alongside James in the semifinals were Lawrence Crawford (6.80), Rodrigo Rocha (6.82) and Philip Smith (6.86) in 11th, 13th and 16th, respectively.
Tying her personal-best, sophomore Tiffany Flynn ran 8.32 in the 60m hurdles semifinals to place fifth qualifying for tomorrow's finals in the event. Running alongside Flynn in the semifinals were Ste'yce McNeil (8.38) finishing ninth and Leah Lott (8.48) in 14th.
Closing out day one, the men's distance medley relay team comprised of Patrick Monaghan, Vince Castillo, Caden Foos and Andrew Monaghan recorded a time of 9:59.12 to finish fourth. On the women's side, Mia Meydrich, Alon Lewis, Madison Milhoan and Marta Freitas ran the fifth-best time in school history after clocking a time of 11:32.38 to finish in fourth place.
Scoring one point for the women's team, Lott went on to place eighth in the long jump after a leap of 18-09.75.
Recording a personal-best, A.J. Ward finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 23-10.75. Ward's fifth-place finish scored four points for the men's team. Competing with Ward was Willie Reed who finished 22nd after jumping 21-10.00.
Day two of the Armory Invite will begin on the track with distance runners Antonia Hehr and Mia Meydrich in the mile run at 8:35 a.m. CT, while Flynn will begin field events with the triple jump at 8:40 a.m.
