Gabby Zgunda, one of the top players in the state of Indiana, is the third member of MSU's 2017 signing class.
Indiana Star Gabby Zgunda Signs With Bulldog Volleyball Program

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After a dominating career on the Indiana volleyball circuit, standout defensive specialist Gabby Zgunda signed with the Mississippi State volleyball program for the 2017 season.
"We are very excited to add Gabby to our Mississippi State Bulldog family," MSU coach David McFatrich said. "Gabby is an excellent passer and defender, very good from the service line and is a tenacious competitor. Not only does Gabby play against great competition during both the high school and club seasons, she is a winner with a disciplined work ethic, a desire to be great and has great communication skills.
"I expect Gabby to have an immediate impact on our Bulldog volleyball program and we're excited the Zgunda family has joined Mississippi State volleyball."
Zgunda is a native of Muncie, Ind., where she has dominated the high school and club volleyball scene for years. A four-year starter in the hotbed of volleyball, Delaware county, Zgunda is a two-time Indiana First Team All-State member and an All-American on the club scene and was recently named to the Indiana North All-Star Team.
"I chose Mississippi State because of Coach McFatrich and to be a part of turning the Bulldog volleyball program around and to win championships," Zgunda said.
In her freshman campaign, Zgunda tallied 302 digs (3.8 per set), 41 aces and 11 assists, leading Heidi Zickgraf's Delta High School Eagles to a 30-5 record and a sectional championship. She upped those numbers in her sophomore season, leading DHS to a 26-6 record with 348 digs (3.5 per set), 39 aces and 36 assists.
Zgunda's breakout year came in her junior season, as she reeled off 418 digs (3.8 per set), 47 aces and 46 assists, leading the Eagles to a 24-11 finish on the year. For her efforts, Zgunda was selected All-Delaware County First Team, All-Hoosier Heritage Conference First Team and All-State First Team by the Indiana Volleyball Coaches Association.
The star DS put together career highs in digs (445), digs per set (4.5) and assists (63), along with 41 aces in her senior campaign. For her efforts, and for pacing the Eagles to a 29-4 finish on the year, Zgunda once again wrapped up first team honors on the county, conference and state level.
For her career, Zgunda earned 1,513 digs (3.7 per set), 168 aces and 156 assists, while leading Delta High School to over 100 victories in her four seasons.
On the club scene, Zgunda continued her dominant ways. Playing for coaches Mike Lingenfelter, Randy Gardner, Pancho Alvarez and the Munciana Volleyball Club, Zgunda started her career out leading her club to back-to-back seventh place finishes at the AAU Nationals in Orlando. The 2014 season saw Zgunda pace her squad to a National Runner Up finish in the Gold Division of the AAU 15 Open Nationals.
After an eighth-place finish at AAU Nationals in 2015 in the 16 Open Gold Division, Zgunda led her team to the AAU Team Final Four in the 17 Open Gold Division. Behind her standout play on the court, Zgunda earned AAU 17 Open All-American Libero honors.
Zgunda has also been a star in the classroom, as she's a four-time All-Academic Hoosier Heritage Conference First Team member. She's also twice earned Indiana Academic All-State honors, landing first team laurels in 2015 and honorable mention in 2016.
The daughter of Grant and Becky Zgunda, Gabby has three siblings, Garrett (23), Graham (22) and Grayson (15). Her mother was a field hockey star at Ball State University, while her dad has won over 200 games as the head football coach at Delta High School.
When not on the court, Zgunda enjoys hanging out with friends, watching football with her family, playing with her two dogs and listening to music. Zgunda plans on majoring in kinesiology at Mississippi State.
