Bulldogs Finish Play At ITA All-American and Houston Cup

TULSA, Okla./HOUSTON, Texas – After three huge wins on Saturday, the Mississippi State men's tennis sophomore duo of Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic concluded play at their respective tournaments on Sunday to complete play for the weekend.
At the ITA All-American Championships, Borges fell in the main draw consolation semifinal against Southern California's Brandon Holt, 6-3, 6-4. The sophomore had fought his way through the singles bracket to defeat three ranked foes, as Borges turned in a great performance in his first ITA All-American appearance as a Bulldog.
"We picked up a lot of wins at the ITA All-American this year and I am proud of how our team developed," head coach Matt Roberts said. "We had five players in the main draw and that's great experience for our team going forward."
USTA Houston Cup
In Houston, sophomore Rakic dropped a hard-fought match to Kevin Bettendroffer. Rakic won the first set, but couldn't overcome Bettendroffer as he fell, 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2. Rakic's opponent Bettendroffer plays at the No. 1 in singles for Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

The Bulldogs next play date will be on Friday, Oct. 14 as the Maroon and White competes in Harlingen, Texas for another USTA Futures.
