Three Bulldogs Make Round of 16 At ITA Southerns; Lee Falls In Mixed Semis At Oracle ITA Masters

TUSCALOOSA, Ala./MALIBU, Calif. – With the first day of the ITA Southern Regional Championships in the books, the Mississippi State women's team went a combined 5-3 in singles and doubles Friday, highlighted by three Bulldogs advancing to the round of 16 in singles.
In singles, MSU newcomer Lisa Marie Rioux, a 9-16 seed, overpowered ULM's Tiffany Mylonas in the first round 6-2, 6-3 and followed with another straight-set win in the second round against LSU's Becca Weissmann 6-3, 6-3. For the round of 16 Saturday, Rioux will face Auburn's fourth-seeded and 25th-ranked Alizee Michaud. After first round byes, MSU's Rentouli, the No. 7 seed and 75th-ranked, outlasted McNeese State's Giovanna Fioretti 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 and State's No. 84 Madison Harrison, a 9-16 seed, retired McNeese's Hannah Brett in straight-sets 7-6(2), 6-1. On Saturday, Rentouli will match up with Alabama's Danielle Spielmann while Harrison will battle LSU's eighth-seeded Ryann Foster.
In other singles play Friday, State rookie Sara Lizariturry defeated Samford's Annika Hepp in the first round 6-2, 6-2, but in the second round fell in a tough three-setter to Louisiana Monroe's Stefana Andrei 5-7, 7-5, 6-4. Bulldog Caroline Kelly fell to Louisiana Tech's Jazmin Britos in the first round 7-5, 6-1. In consolation action Saturday, Kelly received a bye for the first round and will face McNeese's Julia Kral in the round of 16.
Starting the day with doubles Friday, MSU's pair of Kelly and Rentouli fell to Ole Miss' Arianne Hartono and Brooke Stevens 8-2. After a first-round bye, State's Lizariturry and Rioux, a 5-8 seed, will match up with Tulane's Naz Karagoz and Sade Atkinson at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday.
All singles matches on Saturday will not start before noon CT.
Oracle ITA Masters
Also on Friday, State All-American Jasmine Lee advanced to the semifinals in mixed doubles with another victory Friday. The Bulldog senior teamed with Texas A&M's Arthur Rinderknech to overpower Luisa Stefani and Guilherme Hadlich of tourney host Pepperdine 6-1. In the semifinals, the SEC pair fell to the fifth-seeded ACC tandem of North Carolina's Hayley Carter and Georgia Tech's Chris Eubanks 6-1.
In singles play Friday, the eighth-ranked and sixth-seeded Lee fell to Oklahoma State's 10th-ranked Katarina Adamovic 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 16.
