Bulldogs Complete Day Two At ITA Southern Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Mississippi State women's tennis team completed the second day of action at the ITA Southern Regional Championships Saturday.
The day started with doubles. State's Sara Lizariturry and Lisa Marie Rioux, a 5-8 seed, defeated Tulane's Naz Karagoz and Sade Atkinson 8-4 to advance to the quarterfinals. There, the Bulldog pair was upended by Southern Miss' Alex Kitchen and Carolin Drescher 8-4.
In the consolation doubles draw, MSU's Caroline Kelly and Anastasia Rentouli will face Samford's Savannah Wood and Arianna Beltrame at 9 a.m. CT Sunday in the quarterfinals.
In Saturday's singles action, State's 75th-ranked and seventh-seeded Rentouli was setback by Danielle Spielmann of tourney host Alabama in a tough three-setter 6-7(7), 7-5, 6-4 in the Round of 16. Also in the Round of 16, MSU's 84th-ranked Madison Harrison, a 9-16 seed, fell to LSU's eighth-seeded Ryann Foster 6-4, 6-4. The MSU newcomer Rioux, a 9-16 seed, fell to Auburn's fourth-seeded and 25th-ranked Alizee Michaud in a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 contest, also in the Round of 16.
In other singles play Saturday, Kelly fell to McNeese State's Julia Kral 7-5, 6-2 in the Round of 16 of the consolation draw.
