
Track & Field To Compete In Commodore Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. – With 28 athletes slated for competition, the Mississippi State men and women's track and field teams head to Nashville for the Commodore Invitational for the second weekend of the season.
“We saw some strong performances last weekend at LSU,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “Everyone has put in hard work and are ready to compete again. We have a lot of athletes competing in a lot of events this weekend; we're excited to see where everyone is.”
SEC Field Athlete of the Week Logan Boss will be competing in the high jump at the event. At the season opener, the Purple Tiger Invite, Boss cleared 6-09.75 to finish first in the event. Competing alongside Boss will be teammate Deja Givens and on the men's side Seth Peace and Willie Reed.
Haley Reynolds will be competing in the shot put as well as the weight throw along with Brianna Smith. Taking part in the long jump this weekend is Tiffany Flynn, Leah Lott and A.J. Ward. Flynn will also be competing in the triple jump.
Also representing MSU in the field will be senior Sydney Rodkey, who will take part in the pole vault on Saturday.
First up on the track will be Lott, Alon Lewis, Kimari Martin and Zaria Tillman in the 200m dash at 7 p.m. CT on Friday. Following the women's 200m dash will be the men's with Jerome Bazile, Vince Castillo, Dustin James II, Alfred Larry Charles Taylor, Rasheed Tatham, Ro'Derick Spears, Juston Waters and Wesley White.
On Saturday, running events will begin with freshman Shannon Fair making her MSU track debut in the 3000m run. Distance runners Lisa Ziegler and Andrew Monaghan will both be competing in the mile run, while Madison Milhoan and Ffion Price take on the 800m run.
Seven athletes will represent MSU in the 400m run. On the women's side it will be Lewis, Martin and Kaelin Kersh, while Castillo, James and Tatham partake on the men's side. Larry will also compete in the seeded 400m run.
In the 60m hurdles will be Flynn, Lott, Tillman, Spears and White. White and Spears will both go on to compete in the 60m dash along with Bazile, Reed, Taylor, Ward, and Waters.
This will be MSU's first of three scheduled trips to Nashville for the indoor season. SEC foes Alabama, Auburn and Tennessee will also be in attendance at the meet, along with host Vanderbilt.
To conclude the meet will be the women and men's 4x400m relay at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Action in the field begins Friday at 4 p.m. CT with the men's and women's high jump, while running events will start at 7 p.m. Competition will take place at the Vanderbilt Student Rec Center, where MSU holds three facility records. Last season the women's 4x400m relay team, comprised of Shayla Luckett, Ocian Archer, Erica Bougard and Ste'yce McNeil, ran a time of 3:38.04 to bring home first. Bougard, who has completed her indoor eligibility, also holds the facility record in the long jump set in 2014 with a leap of 20-11.25 and the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.20.
