Women?s Cross Country Earns Second At Panorama Farms

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – With the highest finish of the season so far, the Mississippi State women's team captured second place at the Panorama Farms Invite Saturday morning.
The women's squad finished with 83 points to finish just behind host No. 16 Virginia. MSU also bested SEC foe Auburn, who came in third with 106 points.
“I'm extremely proud of how our women ran today,” MSU coach Houston Franks said. “This was a tough course, the toughest so far this season, with a lot of talented teams. I thought our women did a very good job of staying close together while competing today.”
Leading the way for MSU was reigning SEC Runner of the Week Marta Freitas with a time of 17:25.20 to finish 11th. Immediately following Freitas in 12th place was teammate Cornelia Griesche, who clocked a season-best time of 17:28.50
In her season debut, junior All-American Rhianwedd Price placed third for MSU and 17th overall with a time of 17:41.00.
Sophomore Mia Meydrich and junior Lisa Ziegler rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring five in 21st and 22nd, respectively. Meydrich ran a time of 17:48.90, while Ziegler finished in 17:49.60.
Finishing in sixth for MSU, freshman Antonia Hehr placed 37th after a season-best time of 18:16.30. Shannon Fair ran 18:17.30 to finish 39th.
Junior Ffion Price captured 44th place in her MSU debut with a time of 18:25.10, and rookie Kristy Terp finished in 19:17.50 to claim 75th.
On the men's side, the team captured an 11th-place team finish with 303 points. Host No. 9 Virginia captured the men's victory with 41 points.
“Our men's team still has some work to do to get where we need to be,” Franks said. “We are a majority young team, and it was a tough course today. I'm proud of our seniors and the leadership they show, but we need to stay closer as a pack when running the course.”
Pushing out strong for the men's squad, senior Andrew Monaghan ran a personal-best 25:05.90 to earn 45th place.
Not far behind, senior Mathew Dunn captured the second spot for MSU with a personal-best time of 25:12.40 to place 50th.
Finishing third and fourth for MSU was senior Patrick Monaghan and sophomore Branden Nosker in 73rd and 75th, respectively. Patrick Monaghan ran a time of 25:53.00, while Nosker finished with a time of 25:56.90.
Rounding out MSU's Top 5 was freshman JT Mackay with a season-best time of 26:26.60 to finish 91st.
Senior Curtis Kelly (93rd, 26:28.00), freshman Pierce Rose (96th, 26:35.50) and freshman Emilio Perco (101st, 26:51.70) rounded out the Bulldog runners.
Next up for the MSU cross country teams is the Crimson Classic on Oct. 16, in Tuscaloosa.
