Young Bulldogs Paced By Baik In First Round

Charleston, S.C. - In the first tournament of the 2015-16 season, the Mississippi State women's golf team fired a 302 in the opening round to stand in 14th place at the Cougar Classic.
Junior Ji Eun Baik shot a team best 74 to lead the Bulldogs. Baik finished the back nine hitting birdies on holes 12 and 15, which helped her finish out that nine, 1-under-par.
“I thought we actually had a solid day,” MSU coach Ginger Brown- Lemm said. “We finished poorly on the last three holes as a team. We have a lot to learn and it started from (Sunday). I am encouraged by today, and we just need to keep focus and we will be a solid squad.”
All American Jesscia Peng fired a 75 on the day as she completed the round tied for 47th. She did have back-to-back birdies on the back nine, but she had to overcome two double-bogey's on holes 14 and 16.
Freshman Elsa Moberly had a strong outing in her first collegiate event, as she shot a 76.
Senior Logan Chaney matched her second-best performance from last year, as she fired a 77. Firing the only birdie on the team on the front nine, Chaney tied Peng, Baik, and Moberly with two birdie's on the day.
Bianca Theron had a consistent performance in her first-career tournament with a 79.
The Bulldogs tee off the second round of the Cougar Classic Monday at 10:40 CT.
