Peng Leads MSU Through First Round

Orlando, Fla. – In what started out to be an A-typical cool winter morning in Florida, the Mississippi State women's golf team donned the wind and ended the day in 16th place, shooting 316.
“We really struggled in the wind today. With fast greens and confidence shaken we couldn't recover from our eighth and ninth holes,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “We learned some things with our young squad and have to keep playing hard through this learning curve.”
Junior standout Jessica Peng led the way for the team as she got out to a quick lead, shooting only one-over par on her first nine holes before ending her day at 77.
Bianca Theron, a freshman who lately has been playing more like a seasoned veteran, began her day on fire, hitting four birdies accompanied by four shots of par. She finished out with a 78, as well as leading the team in birdies.
Izel Pieters also started her day off strong after birding her first two holes, then shooting par on the next five. The junior ended the first round tied with Theron at 78.
Making her colligate tournament debut, Freshman Kendall Wisenbaker shot an 83. Junior Ji Eun Baik also fired an 83.
Playing as an individual, freshman Katie Holt had a phenomenal outing after ending her day with a 78, T46 overall. This marks Holt's second tournament appearance this season.
The Bulldogs resume play Monday for the second round of the UCF Challenge.
