COLUMBIA, S.C. – A trio of home runs in the fourth inning and a hit parade in the sixth was all that South Carolina needed to beat Mississippi State, 9-1 in six innings, on Sunday.

The win for the Gamecocks gave them the Southeastern Conference series win at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

With the win, USC's regular season concluded with a record of 36-19 overall and 10-14 in SEC play, while MSU dropped to 35-18 overall and 10-14 in the league.

For the second-straight day, State jumped ahead early as an RBI ground out from freshman Morgan Bell scored sophomore Katie Anne Bailey from third to give her side a 1-0 lead in the first.

The Gamecocks took the lead in the second via the long ball as they scored four on three home runs to go ahead 4-1.

In the home half of the sixth, USC looked to add insurance runs, but did a whole lot more as three hits and an error led to five runs and the 9-1 win in six innings for the Gamecocks.

Sophomore Mackenzie Toler (2-1) got the start and the loss for the Bulldogs and in just 1.0 inning of work, she allowed three runs on two hits and struck out one. For USC, Nickie Blue (18-7) got the start and went the distance as she allowed one run on five hits in 6.0 innings.

MSU will focus its attention towards postseason play, starting with the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs will play at 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 6 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
