#StateToTheShow: Bulldog Alumni Meet Head-To-Head
June 24, 2026 | Softball
STARKVILLE – For the first time in 2026, Bulldogs went head-to-head in AUSL action as Mississippi State's Sierra Sacco-Ferrie and the Portland Cascade hosted Peja Goold, Alyssa Loza and the Oklahoma City Spark.
The Spark won the tightly-contested series in dramatic fashion on Sunday, claiming a 4-3 win after scoring the go-ahead run with two outs in the top of the seventh. That game saw Sacco-Ferrie collect her first double, draw a walk and nearly score a decisive run herself. She was responsible for the first run of the game, scoring from first on a double after she opened the second inning by drawing a walk from Goold. In the sixth, she led off the frame with a double in a 3-3 ballgame. On the very next pitch, she tried to score on a single but after review was out at home.
Goold only threw to three batters in that second inning, walking Sacco-Ferrie before allowing the double and getting a pop up to short. She was much more effective two days earlier when the Spark evened the series with a 6-1 victory on Friday night.
Goold entered in relief twice thanks to the AUSL's unique substitution rules for pitchers. She came on to protect a 6-0 lead in the fifth following a leadoff single and got a fly out and a strikeout to help preserve a scoreless frame. She then re-entered the circle with two outs in the sixth and retired the final four batters of the game in order.
The series opener went in the Cascade's favor as Portland cruised to a 3-0 shutout victory. Sacco-Ferrie picked up a single in that game to extend her reached-base streak to five games. Goold and the Spark went on to play a two-game series at Utah on Monday and Tuesday night, dropping both games to the defending-champion Talons. Meanwhile, the Cascade are in the middle of a four-day break before traveling to Texas for three games on June 26-28.
The Spark now have three days off before hosting the Chicago Bandits for two games on June 27-28. Their next three series will all be only two-game affairs. Another run of two-game series is coming for the Cascade. After playing Texas, their next three series are two-game meetings, the final of which sees Sacco-Ferrie, Goold and Loza, State's coordinator of player development and a Spark assistant coach, all meeting again in Oklahoma City on July 4-5.
When the teams meet again, a fourth Bulldog will be added to the mix. Mia Davidson has returned from playing in Japan and was added to the Cascade's active roster during Portland's four-day break. She is expected to make her AUSL debut this week after missing all of last season with an injury.
