Follett-Smith Shoots 69, Bulldogs Finish 12th at Jerry Pate

BIRMINGHAM – Junior Ben Follett-Smith fired a final round 1-under-par 69 to lead the Mississippi State men's golf team to a 288 on Tuesday, as the Bulldogs finished 12th at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate.
Follett-Smith jumped 10 spots to finish tied for 48th overall. The Zimbabwe native shot a 222 for the tournament.
Defending champion Ben Wood shot a final round 73 to finish in tie for 31st, the senior turned in a final score of 215 from golf course name.
Sophomore Taylor Grant carded a 72 over for the final 18 holes to tie for 36th, while redshirt freshman Ross Bell shot a 218 to grab a share for 50th overall.
Rounding out the MSU scorecard was junior Johnny Newnham. The Jamaican native shot a final round 86 to finish with sole possession of 60th place.
Host Alabama won the tournament by five strokes, after turning in a 19-under 821, for the tourney. The Crimson Tide also claimed the individual championship as well, after 275 shot a 821 to claim the tourney.
The Maroon and White return to the links on Oct. 19th to play in the Mountaineer Intercollegiate in Morgantown, W.V., from the Pete Dye golf course.
