
Wood In Top 20 after 36 holes at Jerry Pate Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM – Returning as the defending Jerry Pate Intercollegiate champion, senior Ben Wood is tied for 18th heading into Tuesday's final round at Old Overton Club.
Mississippi State as a team is in 11th after shooting a 582.
Wood, the Florence, Ala. native, shot a two-over-par 142 for his two-round total.
“It was a pretty tough day for us as a whole,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “We really got it going and struggled with execution, especially on some of the easier holes.”
Sophomore Taylor Grant carded a two-round total of 146 to tie for 37th.
Coming off a solid performance at Shoal Creek, Ross Bell tied for 47th after shooting a 149.
Jamaican native, Johnny Newnham shot a 151 and has sole possession of 56th place.
Rounding out the MSU scorecard, Ben Follett-Smith posted a two-round total of 153 to head into Tuesday in 58th place.
“We have to do a better job of saving shots around the greens and keep the momentum going,” Homan said. “We need to come out and put together some good rounds.”
Host Alabama, led by individual leader Robby Shelton, is leading the 12-team field at 130, five strokes ahead of Alabama's Tom Lovelady and Florida's Sam Horsfield.
MSU will tee-off the third and final round Tuesday at 8:00 a.m..
