Patrasc/Rentouli Claim Consolation Doubles Title At USTA/ITAs

AUBURN, Ala. – On the third day of play, the Mississippi State women's tennis team finished its run at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Sunday, with the duo of Georgiana Patrasc and Anastasia Rentouli claiming the consolation doubles crown. The Bulldog rookie Rentouli also reached the semifinals of the main draw in singles.
The day started with Patrasc and Rentouli in the doubles A Draw consolation semifinals, pairing up with Troy's Jiayuan Xue and Efriliya Herlina who they downed 8-3. The duo was scheduled to face Tulane's Kyla Klier and Naz Karaqoz in the finals, but the Green Wave tandem had to withdraw due to an injury, handing MSU the crown in that draw.
In the singles A draw, the newcomer Rentouli won in straight sets over LSU's fourth-seeded and 52nd-ranked Skylar Kuykendall 6-4, 6-2 – her second top 100 win in as many days - to advance to the semifinals. She took on Auburn's Andie Dikosavljevic there, going three sets, but ultimately falling to the SEC foe 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Also in the A draw, 83rd-ranked Patrasc met Dikosavlievic in the quarterfinals, but could not defeat the Tiger in a competitive three-set match, falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
In the singles B draw semifinal, State's Caroline Kelly posted a valiant effort against Louisiana Tech's Yuchia Chen but could not proceed to the finals, dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
“We missed out on a couple of big opportunities today, but I am pleased with our overall performance on the weekend,” MSU head coach Daryl Greenan said. “Anastasia picked up another big win today and was very impressive in her first ever regional tournament. This was one of the best regional tournaments we have had and to do it without our number one player entered in singles makes it even more impressive. We definitely need to work hard to improve some things, but I feel like we are on the right track and making steady progress.”
