
Wilson Wins Heptathlon On Day Two Of Samford Multi Invitational

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Momentum from day one carried over into day two of the Samford Multi Invitational as sophomore Jaquarius Wilson went on to win the heptathlon.
“I'm so proud of how hard these athletes competed over the past two days,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “It's rewarding to see all their hard work from practice pay off.”
After scoring 2,866 points on day one, Wilson went on to capture the win with a total of 5,068 points. In the 60-meter hurdles, Wilson ran a time of 8.52 to place first on Thursday afternoon. In the pole vault, he vaulted a height of 12-07.25 to finish the event and take home the overall win. Wilson ran a time of 2:49.17 in the 1000-meter run to score 774 points.
Zachary Taylor immediately followed Wilson in second place with a total of 4,730 points. Taylor began the day with a time of 10.81 in the 60-meter hurdles. He went on to have a height of 13-11 in the pole vault. To close out the meet, Taylor ran a time of 2:38.18 in the 1000-meter run.
Freshman Jesse Austin placed fourth overall in the heptathlon after starting the day with a time of 9.14 in the 60-meter hurdles. He then vaulted a height of 15-02.75 in the pole vault before running a time of 2:56.92 in the 1000-meter run.
With the conclusion of the Samford Multi Invitational, the Bulldogs will turn their attention straight to the Commodore Inivtitational, which will take place Friday and Saturday in Nashville.
The meet will kick off at 5 p.m. with the high jump. Logan Boss, Abigail Dill, Seth Peace and Chance Stephens will be competing for MSU.
The women's weight throw will also take place Friday at 5 p.m. MSU's Sasha-Gaye Marston and Haley Reynolds will be partaking.
Tiffany Flynn will be competing in the women's long jump to finish the field events on Friday.
On the track, the distance medley relay will kick off the running events. The women's team will be made up of Kimari Martin, Marta Frietas, Mia Meydrich and Emma Neigel.
Distance runners Meydrich and Neigel will start Saturday's events at 10:30 a.m. in the mile run. Partaking in the 60-meter hurdles will be Erica Bougard, Ste'yce McNeil, Jovan Davis, Justin Pizarro and Wesley White.
In the field, school record holder Ebony Brinker and Flynn will both be competing in the triple jump, while Willie Reed will be representing MSU in the long jump.
