MSU?s Wood Tied For 10th After 36 holes at Shoal Creek Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming of his first career win two weeks ago at the Memphis Intercollegiate, junior Ben Wood followed it up with more good play at the Shoal Creek Invitational.
The Florence, Ala., native, shot a 2-over-par 74 in his first round Monday morning, but roared back in the afternoon to card a 3-under par 69, including an eagle on the par-5 third, to end the day tied for 10th with a 1-under 143.
Wood's round was the bright spot in a difficult day on the course for the Bulldogs. State fired rounds of 306 and 313 to enter Tuesday's final round in 12th place.
Junior Tim Walker carded a 12-over-par 156, tying him for 52nd position, while Australian Jackson Dick shot a 13-over-par 157 to sit in a tie for 57th.
Fletcher Johnson and Taylor Bibbs both improved their second round scorecards. Johnson had a three-shot improvement in the afternoon, shooting an 80 to finish in 64th position with a 163.
The freshman Bibbs shaved two strokes off his morning round to sit in a tie for 66th with a 174.
Competing as an individual, Johnny Newnham carded a 15-over-par 158.
Alabama claimed the top team spot with a 10-under-par 566, while the Crimson Tide's Tom Lovelady took the clubhouse lead with an 8-under-par 136.
The Bulldogs tee it up for the final round at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.
