Ramey Finishes Fourth At SEC Championship Behind Six-Under-Par Day

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – In the final SEC Championship appearance of his career, senior Chad Ramey turned in a 64 on Sunday to finish fourth at Sea Island, giving Mississippi State a ninth-place finish in the process.
The Bulldogs finished the weekend at Sea Island tied for ninth overall, after shooting 1-over-par on Saturday and Sunday to give the Maroon and White a 9-over-par 849 total score.
“It was an ideal scoring day where everybody was shooting low, but we could only manage to post two good rounds,” coach Clay Homan said. “Our guys gave it all they had, but we simply faltered down the stretch on holes 15 through 18.”
For Ramey, the day began with the senior sitting in 15th, but he moved up the leaderboard 11 spots after firing off a 6-under-par 64 for the final round. With the 6-under-par 204 performance, Ramey claimed the best finish of his career at the SEC Championship.
“Chad ended his SEC career with one of the best rounds in our history at Sea Island,” Homan said of Ramey's day. “He, along with our other seniors, have meant so much to this program and I am so proud of them.”
Fellow senior Joe Sakulpolphaisan finished Sunday with a 26th-place card, after turning in a 1-under-par 69 for the final round. The Thailand native finished with a 1-over-par 211 from Sea Island.
The Bulldog duo of sophomore Ben Wood and senior Barrett Edens each capped their weekend with a 43rd-place card, by turning in a 7-over-par 217 at the SEC Championship.
Rounding out the Maroon and White scorecard from Sea Island was senior Axel Boasson, as the Iceland product finished out his SEC career with a 23-over-par 233 to finish 70th.
No. 1 Alabama claimed team and individual titles on Sunday, after turning in record performances on both sides. The Crimson Tide claimed its third-straight SEC title after posting a record 34-under-par 806, while Bobby Wyatt turned in a record 18-under-par 192 to claim the tournament medalist.
Homan's squad will now wait to see where it lands in the postseason during the NCAA Selection Show that will be held May 5 at 9 a.m. CT. The Maroon and White will be seeking its first back-to-back postseason appearance since the 2008 and 2009 squad. Last season the Bulldogs finished 10th at the Baton Rouge Regional.
