BATON ROUGE, La. – Hitting the road for a mid-week showdown on ESPNU, the Mississippi State volleyball Bulldogs (5-15, 0-5 SEC) fell in a 3-0 decision to the LSU Tigers (7-7, 2-3 SEC) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Wednesday.
Leading the way for MSU was freshman libero Payton Harris, who put together 18 digs on the night, moving her to 486 on the season. The total places Harris at seventh in the individual season record list for digs.
On the night, State was unable to find its rhythm against the Tigers, as the home squad used a plethora of runs early in all three sets to create distance from MSU. The Bulldogs held the lead twice early on in the match, as both sides traded blows to start off the night. Down 3-2, the Tigers went on a 9-1 run to push its lead to 11-4. From there, the home squad would keep the Bulldogs at bay, going on to take the opening set, 25-13.
LSU found similar success in the second frame, as it used a 7-1 run to open up against the Bulldogs. The Tigers would maintain the lead, taking the second set and a 2-0 lead, 25-12. The final frame saw the Bulldogs put together a couple small runs, pulling as close as three to the Tigers. However, LSU would pull away late, taking the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-0.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Alex Warren, who tallied six kills for the night. Shelby Anderton earned 13 assists, while Leticia Valente paced the Bulldogs with three total blocks on the night.
Mimi Eugene, who earned 15 kills on the night, led LSU. Malorie Pardo tallied 30 assists, while a trio of Tigers earned double-digit digs.
