BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A strong showing from Rhianwedd Price helped lead the Mississippi State women's cross country team to a Top 15 performance Saturday at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
Price, a sophomore, helped lead the women's squad to an overall 11th-place team finish, running a time of 20:17 to claim 10th individually.
Sophomore Lisa Ziegler followed Price, placing 27th with a time of 20:53. Junior Cornelia Griesche took 60th (21:15). Jodie McGuff (131th, 22:02), Mia Meydrich (146th, 22:09) and Rachel Caulkins (236th, 23:08) rounded out the women's lineup.
“Rhainwedd had a great race and led for a while,” MSU coach Houston Franks said. “Lisa Ziegler and Emma Neigel also ran a strong race today. Emma has had strong practices in the off weeks and that showed today.”
The men's squad placed 31st overall, with senior Damian Roszko leading the way in 28th (24:27). Senior Mathew Dunn followed Roszko with a time of 25:48 to finish 177th.
“Damian ran a good race despite the fact he did not get out very well in the beginning,” Franks said. “Mathew Dunn was a big part of today's race. I'm happy with how well he ran.”
Patrick Monaghan (181st, 25:49), Curtis Kelly (191st, 25:52) and Braden Nosker (231st, 26:11) rounded out the Bulldogs' Top 5.
“We are getting closer to where we need to be, but we still have a ways to go for both sides,” Franks said.
Both cross country teams return to action October 17 at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa.
